The master of horror cinema, Robert Eggers, is to restore the silent classic of 1920’s Nosferatu to the screens, much expected in the remakes by 2024. First launched in 1922, Nosferatu is among the most prominent films within the silent genre of horror, serving as a film adaptation, even though unofficial, of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The grotesque image of Count Orlok has captured the attention of cinema fans for well over a hundred years, terrorizing people with its visions.

Eggers’ take is the latest in a long line of adaptations, including the frightening Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979), which somehow made the bad guy even scarier. The creator of critically acclaimed modern horror films like The Witch and The Lighthouse, Eggers has earned himself a reputation for crafting atmospheric and cerebral horror. Nosferatu promises to be another standout, with interesting details about the cast, release date, and storyline already available.

Well, second trailer for the movie Nosferatu to create much anticipation for a tension-forged storyline. Featuring Lily-Rose Depp’s character Ellen, where she has given a narration regarding a nightmare interwoven with some dark, moody shots that set out the ominous tone of the movie, it ends at the hand of a Count Orlok creeping into the bedroom of Ellen, marking the spookiest closing shot in the preview.

The end Nosferatu will be releasing in cinemas this Christmas 25 December 2024, a refreshing change in the holiday season. Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski teased with the announcement: “The audacious filmmaking of Robert Eggers is always a gift for fans, and we can promise that his Nosferatu is planning quite the Christmas feast.”.

  • Lily-Rose Depp is Ellen Hutter, the young woman swept into the sinister web of Count Orlok.
  • Willem Dafoe, with whom Eggers collaborated on The Lighthouse, plays offbeat vampire hunter Professor Albin Eberhart Von Franz.
  • Bill Skarsgård is Count Orlok. His background includes horror, where he portrayed Pennywise in IT.
  • Nicholas Hoult will portray Thomas Hutter, the fellow who becomes embroiled in Ellen’s trouble and the sinister machinations of the vampire.

 Plot

Plot points are thin as of this writing, but Eggers’ adaptation promises to stick to the skeletal outline of the 1922 film’s narrative. Like the original, the film is about a young woman named Ellen, whom Count Orlok targets as the old vampire travels from his dark country to feed on Western Europe. Eggers is very well-suited to reinterpret F.W. Murnau’s classic German Expressionist film since he has a distinct style visually and pays attention to the atmospheric details that can produce an interesting homage. Eggers’ Nosferatu is shaping up as a fresh but reverent take on this silent-era classic, coupled with his trademark visual flair for a gripping narrative. Horror and cinema enthusiasts have more than enough to be excited about this Christmas.
