Spoiler Alert!
Good news: All of Us Are Dead has been officially renewed for a second season.
Enthusiasts of the contemporary and fast-paced zombie genre—most likely including yourself, in light of your interest in this text—will remember that the inaugural season of this Korean drama ranked among the finest in the genre. A rather interesting and well-written story –All of Us Are Dead– series, indeed the well-thought-out research that depicted all issues related to a zombie breakout view, presented from the perspective of some students who are locked within an ordinary high school during some events.
During his interview with The Korea Herald, Director Lee Jae-kyoo admitted that he was also very mindful to allow room for further storyline extensions within the first season. “Many directions, settings, and scenes were intentionally built so as to provide a window of possibility in case there would be another season, like the zombie types that emerged in the last part,” Lee said, referencing hybrid zombies introduced in the last half of the program.
When Is All of Us Are Dead Season 2 Expected to Release?
While the first season focused on man’s survival, the second season would focus on how long these zombies can survive.
As new episodes are soon to be released, the time has now come to prepare for what will be another exciting ride. Read on for all you need to know. The release date of Season 2 of All of Us Are Dead is close. It has been confirmed that All of Us Are Dead will return for a second season. Its renewal was announced by Netflix Korea through an Instagram post that featured a teaser video for Season 2. The caption the post carried reads, “Can we survive again? The second story of Hyosan High School friends’ fierce zombie survival journey begins.”
The agency that represents Park Ji-hu, who plays On-jo, announced that she was included in the “2024 lineup” of the show. Reports later on suggest that production for the second season has been delayed and might not be scheduled until next year.
According to the South Korean outlet Star News, Netflix has delayed production to make more favorable production conditions and ensure high-quality output. So far, the service has been mum about the cause of the delay. If this delay persists, the second season may not be released until late 2025 or even later. Fans have to wait for that time.
Who Is in All of Us Are Dead Season 2?
The second season cast is really hard to predict because of a relatively high mortality rate depicted in the first season, but some of the survivors are assumed to appear in the show again. The characters that are considered to appear again include On-jo (Park Ji-hu), Su-hyeok (Park Solomon), Dae-su (Im Jae-hyuk), Ha-ri (Ha Seung-ri), Mi-jin (Lee Eun-saem), and Hyo-ryung (Kim Bo-yoon). Everybody is surely excited for the return of character Cheong-san, especially after a glimpse of him in the teaser trailer from season two.
While the fans are understandably depressed by his chivalrous sacrifice in episode 11, confirmation of return does lead to more questions about conditions surrounding the return of his character alive, dead, or possibly flashbacks. Recently, Yoon Chan-young sat down with Soompi to discuss the future of his character, Cheong-san. Even though he still cannot see where his character is headed, he did say that he wants Cheong-san to survive and hopes to be able to say lines he hasn’t gotten to say yet. A definite returnee will be Choi Nam-ra as played by Cho Yi-hyun. Expect a mix of familiar faces and new, bloodied characters in the upcoming season two.
What can we expect for the upcoming second season of All of Us Are Dead?
The first season of All of Us Are Dead ends with most of the characters dying. As a result, Hyosan City had immediately fallen, and the large segment of undead was subsequently destroyed by bombing attacks made by the Korean military. Where most the surviving story lines ended, according to director Lee Jae-kyoo, the following season would see “even more powerful, and more evolved zombies,” and would continue to the “fallen” Seoul.
The end of season one in 2022 sends the high schoolers running out the door; by season two, though, nearly three or four years would have passed. Unless a strain of the virus causes an aging effect on the characters, or the actors themselves undergo some miraculous change, those actors who are no longer playing high school students may need to age a few years in their own timelines.
Another interesting development is Nam-ra, who, despite being infected, has managed to maintain some aspects of her humanity. It is discovered that she is one of the many hybrid zombies, who can harness the virus to their own advantage and thus gain more strength and higher resistance to pain. The thirst for human flesh remains, though, which can become a source of potential conflict in the episodes that follow. The show is very different from its initial webtoon, and that trend will probably continue into the second season.
